To be specific, we explore the role of translation in second language acquisition. The article focuses on the instruction, prerequisites, and didactic perspectives of using the mother tongue in developing bilingualism, particularly at the initial stage of the development of the communicative skills. Despite different approaches to using the mother tongue that exist in foreign language teaching, translation remains an unavoidable phenomenon in language acquisition. The article explores the problems of language learning and how to overcome these problems in a bilingual environment.
