With the growing importance of digital resources, such as educational podcasts, the present study sought to investigate the rhetorical move structure of the BBC Learning English podcast series 6 Minute English as an instance of the Chat Show genre. Based on the qualitative rhetorical move analysis of 30 randomly selected episodes, 11 moves could be identified as the genre-specific moves typical of the series, each striving to serve its specific rhetorical functions. Frequency counts were used to distinguish obligatory and optional moves. Eight of them were consistently present (e.g., Greeting and Program Introduction, Engagement Quiz, Vocabulary Explanation, etc.), and three varied according to episode topic and tone (Personalized Small Talk, Interview/Guest Voice, Analytical). The findings indicate that the podcast follows a stable move pattern that combines topical discussion with explicit language support. Theoretically, the study extends move analysis beyond written academic genres to a spoken educational podcast, demonstrating how a Chat Show format can be adapted for English language learning through recurrent, pedagogically oriented moves. Overall, the move organization supports both the aims of engaging and educating the audience, as well as the series’ consistent episode structure, by aiding listener orientation and promoting repeated listenership.
