Abstract
This mixed-methods quasi-experimental study evaluated the effects of digitally mediated instruction on the professional-communicative competence of 90 third-year foreign philology students at the Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages. Over one academic semester, the experimental group completed project-based, communication-oriented activities using Moodle, ISSAI KAZ-LLM, AI-YM, ChatGPT, and Grammarly, whereas the control group received traditional instruction. Quantitative pre- and post-test data were combined with qualitative reflections, peer evaluations, and instructor observations. Overall competence in the experimental group increased from 62.4% to 81.7%, an improvement of 19.3 percentage points, compared with a 7.8-point descriptive increase in the control group. Reported within-group tests indicated statistically significant gains for the experimental group across the assessed dimensions (p < .05), whereas control-group gains were not statistically significant (p > .05). The findings support the pedagogically structured integration of digital instruments in blended and hybrid foreign philology education.
